Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

This Special Issue is the continuation of our previous Special Issue, "Advances in Cryptococcus and Cryptococcosis".

Cryptococcus is a genus of fungi that includes several species, with Cryptococcus neoformans and Cryptococcus gattii being the most prominent. These fungi are known for their ability to cause cryptococcosis, a fungal infection that primarily affects immunocompromised individuals, but which can also pose a threat to those with healthy immune systems. Cryptococcosis is a global health concern with diverse clinical manifestations, ranging from pulmonary and central nervous system infections to potentially life-threatening disseminated diseases. This Special Issue seeks to highlight the latest advances in our understanding of Cryptococcus and cryptococcosis, encompassing various aspects of these pathogens, from their biology and genetics to epidemiology, diagnostics, and treatment strategies, thereby promoting the development of improved diagnostic, treatment, and prevention strategies.

This Special Issue invites researchers and experts to submit their valuable original research articles, reviews, and perspectives that cover a wide range of topics within the field of Cryptococcus and cryptococcosis, including, but not limited to, the following:

  • Cryptococcus biology, morphology, and genomics;
  • Virulence factors and pathogenic mechanisms of Cryptococcus species;
  • Epidemiology and global distribution of cryptococcal infections;
  • Diagnostic methods, including molecular and serological approaches;
  • Antifungal drug development and treatment strategies;
  • Host–pathogen interactions and immune responses in cryptococcosis;
  • Cryptococcal meningitis and central nervous system infections;
  • Emerging trends in the study of Cryptococcus and novel therapeutic approaches.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Microorganisms is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2700 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
