10 May 2024 Topics Webinar | Climate Change and Environmental Sustainability on 10 May 2024

Online

Due to the continuous release of greenhouse gas (GHG) into the atmosphere, the climate on Earth is ever-changing with the increase in the average temperature and the appearance of extreme events. Climate change has caused a series of disasters such as extreme heat, flooding, wildfire, and drought and significantly threatened the safety and health of human beings and the prosperity and sustainable development of society. The peak of the climate emergency with a threshold of 1.5 °C or 2.0 °C, beyond which climate-related social, economic, and environmental impacts will become irreversible, is approaching. Urgent actions relevant to mitigation and adaptation solutions should be taken to decelerate climate change and to protect people from climate-induced threats. This webinar invites three scholars to share their latest research outcomes in climate-related impact mitigation and adaptation, built environment decarbonization, and sustainable urban planning and design. This webinar also calls for the involvement and participation of all professions in society to accelerate the progress of climate change mitigation and adaptation through closing a series of gaps towards actual implementation.

Upcoming Partner Conferences (1)

29–31 May 2024 XX International Conference on Building Pathology and Construction Repair

Fortaleza, Brazil

With a history of 19 successful conferences around the world, CINPAR is one of the most important conferences on building pathology and rehabilitation in South America. It represents an opportunity for the acquisition of new knowledge and for the exchange of experiences in fields related to the rehabilitation and strengthening of structures. Past editions were hosted by Brazil, Argentina, Portugal, Chile, Italy, and Turkey. This year, it is time for the charming and dynamic Fortaleza to be the host.

In its first five years, the conference focused on topics related to the investigation of damages and diagnosis techniques. During the 6th to the 15th years, CINPAR shifted its attention towards discussions of non-destructive tests, the exploration of new materials for repair, techniques for structural strengthening, and material characterization. The latest iterations of CINPAR have been devoted to the main advances in the field, including cutting-edge materials, structural health monitoring, digitalization, and the preservation of cultural heritage. In line with the evolving needs of the industry, CINPAR is now dedicated to addressing critical issues such as climate change and the construction life cycle, further solidifying its position as a driving force in the field of building pathology and rehabilitation.

Aim and Scope

CINPAR2024 covers, but is not limited to, the following topics: climate changes and the built environment; the construction life cycle; hygrothermal behavior; structural pathologies: stone, wood, mortar, and concrete; diagnosis techniques: diagnostic methodological approaches, traditional and innovative techniques, and non-destructive methodologies; building pathology vs. durability; asset management: costs resulting from poor quality, maintenance, and deterioration; the rehabilitation of constructed heritage: strategies and incentives and diagnostic and design methodologies, the existence of appropriate regulations for rehabilitation, the restoration of public spaces, adaptive rehabilitation, and rehabilitation technologies; energy efficiency; building materials: ecology, nanotechnology, and recent trends; the applications and limitations of novel building technologies; structural health monitoring; sustainability and new materials for rehabilitation; infrastructure and urban scale studies; case studies; building information modeling; building performance simulation.
