Camelid Productions, Products and Welfare

Dear Colleagues,

For the International Year of the Camelids, as decreed by the United Nations, a Special Issue of Animals is proposed; this Special Issue will be dedicated to this emblematic family from the most disadvantaged areas of the planet, encompassing small camelids in the South American highlands, and large camelids from Africa or Asia. Their production (milk, meat, wool in particular) and their services (desertification combat, auxiliaries in transport and agricultural activities, sport and leisure) make them the companions of millions of people in high-altitude or desert regions. This Special Issue aims to highlight the potential of these species in the service of humans living in difficult regions: their production, their products their modern or traditional valorization, and their breeding by communities or in a more intensive context, without forgetting their welfare in changing climatic and managerial contexts. Camelids, as a family of domesticated animals (some still wild) between tradition and modernity, offer biological models, are producers of goods and services, and are elements of desert or Andean anthropo-ecosystems. This Special Issue aims to elucidate the current advances in which the scientific community is showing growing interest.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. Animals is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
