MDPI Romania sponsored the Academic Writing Week, organized by the European Students’ Society at Casa de Cultura a Studentilor Cluj-Napoca. The event was hosted in Cluj-Napoca, on 26 and 27 February 2024, with the aim of enhancing students’ research and academic writing skills through guidance, workshops, and training sessions. By equipping students with these essential skills, Academic Writing Week seeks to empower them to excel in their studies and actively contribute to the academic community.

During the week, MDPI Romania made two significant contributions: a general presentation about MDPI and its presence in Romania, and a training session titled “The World of Open Access”.

In the first presentation, Sandra Spatariu, the office manager of MDPI Romania, shared insights into MDPI’s journey from its establishment in 1996 to becoming a leading open access academic publisher today. She highlighted MDPI’s global presence and its commitment to providing free access to scientific discoveries through over 400 scientific journals.

The second session, “The World of Open Access”, was led by Norbert Kiss, the Journal Relations Specialist (JRS) of the Biomolecules journal. Norbert covered various aspects of the open access publishing model, its advantages, types, and MDPI’s editorial process and values. The presentation sparked high engagement among participants, evident from the enthusiastic participation in the Q&A session and private discussions with the JRS afterward. At the conclusion, participants reflected on their learning, demonstrating a clear understanding of the session’s content.
